SMART HOME DESIGN TAILORED TO YOU AND YOUR HOME

A better technology experience

WHAT MAKES A SMART HOME A ‘SMART’ HOME?

A quick google search will lead you to believe that a smart home is just a group of services and 'smart' appliances connected to an app on your phone.

While control is a key component in a smart home; it only forms part of the picture.

CDAs vision of a truly 'smart' home, and the core tenet behind our design, involves reducing the need to control devices manually.

We achieve this by implementing home automation rules tailored specially to the way you live; eliminating repetitive tasks and simplifying the user experience, so you can spend less time playing with the controls on your phone, and more time enjoying the benefits of your custom designed, connected home.

Imagine walking from room to room with your lights automatically switching and dimming to the optimal level of brightness for the time of day. Smart Lighting also grants you the ability to create a variety of lighting scenes for different occasions; whether it's a cozy movie night or a vibrant dinner party.

Smart lighting is more than just a convenience though; it can provide energy efficiency. Through the use of sensors and automation, lights will only ever be on when needed, and at the required level of brightness for the time of day; contributing to reducing your carbon footprint.

A comprehensive home security system includes security cameras, access control, security sensors, and an alarm. Integrating your security system with your smart home is a fantastic way to provide remote monitoring and access from anywhere in the world, and additionally allows a variety of handy home automations; such as running a welcome scene when the alarm is disarmed.

Modern security systems include features such as facial recognition technology, smart locks with biometric access, and motion sensors that ignore roaming pets. These features collaborate to create a safe and secure environment for you and your family while at home, or over the other side of the world on holidays.

HOME SECURITY

Whether you're plunging into the depths of home cinema for the ultimate movie room experience, or you just like to have a bit of music playing in the background while entertaining; audiovisual (AV) technology can play an important role in providing ambiance and making your smart home feel complete.

CDA are experts in AV integration. Regardless of the size and scope; we will create a bespoke system tailored to your specific needs. From the layout of TVs and speakers, to the consideration of acoustics and soundproofing in key areas; every element is refined to fit with your home design, and ensure an immersive experience.

AUDIOVISUAL

Environment control encompasses a number of systems including air-conditioning, motorised windows, fans, motorised shades and more. These systems provide comfort and privacy. The unfortunate truth about the ever growing number of electronic devices in our homes is that they often require yet another wall controller.

Integrating these systems with your smart home not only eliminates the need for a multitude of individual wall controllers, it also allows them to be included in home automation schedules and events, such as closing all windows, turning off the AC, and turning off all fans; when everyone has left home for the day.

ENVIRONMENT

Take control of your energy usage and monitoring. With usage data at your fingertips, and the ability to adjust your consumption during peak hours, reducing your carbon footprint and improving your energy independence has never been easier.

Much like 'smart' thermostats, an integrated energy management system can 'learn' when certain systems are used, and provide the facility to automate aspects of your electrical system so that you're conserving as much energy as possible when it counts. A great example of this is giving you control over when your EV charger is charging a vehicle.

ENERGY

While we aspire to create environments where infrequent manual interaction is necessary; having control over your smart home is still essential for a seamless and enjoyable technology experience.

Fortunately, there are multiple options available for control, allowing us to personalise the experience to suit your needs. The classic tactile remote has made a comeback in recent years due to the inconvenience of having to look at a touch screen to know what button you're pressing. Voice control is consistently improving, and becoming better integrated with smart home functionality. Wall mounted touch screens are often a key feature of the modern smart home, acting as the control and communication hub in central areas.

Our Process

Home Cinema Discovery
  • At CDA, we understand the importance of creating an environment that is properly tailored to your specific requirements. We will work closely with you and other key stakeholders, such as architects and interior decorators, to design a smart home that not only functions the way you want, but one that fits in with your home design and decor too.

No need to stress if you don’t have a fully formed vision for your project yet; With 15 years experience designing bespoke smart homes, we can provide any guidance you might require.

  • With the information we gathered during the Discovery process we can now form a functional brief for your smart home, which will outline the requirements from a hardware, software, and programming perspective.

The functional brief will be a key part of the documentation provided to integrators so that they have a full understanding of the scope of your project. Ensuring all parties understand the system design in full, prior to engagement, is key to avoiding unnecessary variations, and keeping your project running to schedule.

  • We start this process by refining a list of products that you will see or interact with in your home, based on their suitability to fulfill the functional brief. These options will be provided to you, and other key stakeholders such as architects and interior decorators, to make selections for the desired look and finish.

CDA will then fill in the gaps with any other necessary products to make your smart home work with your selections; produce a full finishes schedule, and a list of required systems for installation.

Specification
  • CDA will provide detailed cabling drawings, as well as a formalised scope of works utilising the functional brief and product specification created in the previous design phases.

This documentation will be kept up to date throughout the build process, and updated to an as-built set upon completion, incorporating any and all necessary details from the cabling, installation, and commissioning process.

  • Beyond CDAs smart home design service, we also offer a variety of ongoing project services, which can be utilised where necessary on a project whether designed by CDA, or designed by others.

Check out the Project Services page for more information.
